Interview with Melanie Steyr

Melanie’s experience about her unhealthy lifestyle and amazing change and challenges

Welcome to my second post!

First of all, I want to thank Melanie for sharing her encounter with healthy lifestyle, nutrition and her challenges throughout her process with us. It’s a good opportunity to see how other affected people felt and learn from their experience as gaining weight and an unhealthy lifestyle has a growing impact on many people. And I want to make people aware that many face these problems and also that everyone can overcome them.

Let’s see what she had to share with us in the interview…

Zalina: How did you feel mentally before and after changing your lifestyle?

Melanie: Before I started, I felt very weak mentally and physically and even faced depression. After changing my lifestyle, I began to eat healthier and went to the gym and did workouts, which made me feel more powerful. I love my body and I’m really happy now.

Zalina: What was the hardest challenge you faced during your process?

Melanie: The hardest challenge was to have the power and motivation to keep on with my diet and especially with the physical activities. And I faced a setback when I broke up with my boyfriend, where I didn’t loose any weight and fell back into my old patterns for a short period. I think everybody who’s trying to make a chance in their life whatever it might be, faces a hard time, where it feels hard to get up and move on and when you overcome that obstacle it becomes easier and you can master anything like I did.

Zalina: What was the main reason why you wanted to lose weight and become healthier?

Melanie: It began in summer 2017 where I was in vacation in Mallorca with my boyfriend. All of sudden he challenged me and said, “You’re never going to start with sport and lose weight”. But I wanted to convince him and most of me from the opposite. I knew that I needed a change because I felt uncomfortable in my own body, which also affected me emotionally because I didn’t see myself as pretty. This was like my motivation. I wanted to show everybody what I can do and started the process in September 2017 and I lost 14 kilogram within three months. But it was indeed very hard, but I’m really satisfied with the outcome and I adapted to these changes, which makes it easier for me now to keep on with my healthy lifestyle and I believe that everyone else can do the same.

Zalina: How did you plan your process?

Melanie: I started to do workouts from youtube from a famous influencer. This was really good. And I avoided sweets and bread at the first two months. I did a radically diet, which I think wasn’t a good idea. Now I plan my workouts and control my food intake. I do more muscle gain workout to become stronger, so that I’m also capable of defending myself and do less cardio.

Zalina: Do you have any advice for people who want to follow your steps?

Melanie: Yes, sure. Set your goal and work slowly towards it, because it could lead to a setback. You always have to focus. Have a cheat day or even a cheat week to treat yourself and your achievements. It’s important that you want to reach your goal and you have to do it for yourself and nobody else. And the best motivation advice I can give to is, write down supportive words and encouraging sentences for yourself and create your own motivational book and read through them whenever you feel down and seek for support.

Old habits die hard. But all in all, we can say that many of us faced similar experience and went through the same situations. We can learn from Melanie that it’s possible to conquer one’s weaker self. But at the end it’s all up to us and we have to choose our own way towards a better, healthier and above all a happier life.
